The velcro is the only reason I gave this 4 stars. Nothing says "tourist" like the sound of velcro opening. Because there is also a sturdy snap on the inside flap, I covered the stiff part of the velcro with a piece of attractive flannel, and I now have the perfect bag for traveling. The size is great for documents, a phone, and a little bit of cash. The shoulder strap is adjustable, so I can wear it cross-body and shorten it so that it rests right under my arm. This pouch/pack is somewhat smaller than it appears in the picture (to me). However, it is made well, and will hold your passport, wallet, some keys, a "normal" sized point and shoot camera.
It is exactly what I required, so I'm very pleased with it. The rope / around the neck portion, is a metal cable that adjusts, but stays a solid loop. The metal strand isn't irritating or anything that you may expect.
I guess the only downside would possibly be that it's not designed to be water resistant/proof. This can easily be fixed by tossing in a plastic baggie, or "dry-bag". Stick your camera in the bag, then in the pouch - done.
