I purchased this backpack [Butterflies Chartreuse/White Print] for my sister who is entering High School. It is very colorful and the colors are accurate to the listing image. The material is thin but seems sturdy and strong. The outer zipper pocket is actually pretty deep. It contains 2 writing utensil inserts and 2 inserts for things like post-its or money. There is also a key fob where you can click/lock/hang your keys or anything of that nature on.
I thought initially that this compartment was small. However if you lift where the zipper lining is lined up with the High Sierra logo, there is actually space under that. So if you want to store a ruler in this compartment, you can. To test it [didn't have a ruler handy], I stored a Bounty paper towel roll in there and completely zipped it up just fine. Basically, the extra storage is under the High Sierra logo but inside of the outer compartment.
The inner compartment is deep and wide enough to fit 2-3 textbooks depending on their size or probably like 5, 1" binders. It all just depends on what you plan on carrying inside of it. The straps and zippers to be strong as well. I'll update review if needed.

[[My order was sold by High Sierra Store and fulfilled by Amazon]], therefore the backpack arrived in a perfectly size box. It was not folded, it was laying down completely. I appreciated this because had it been folded, those creases are almost always impossible to get rid of on this type of item. Perfectly packaged.
