What is not to love By Julia
First, let me reveal a big gotcha in the industry regarding carry-on luggage dimensions. Without exception, all airlines post their luggage maximum size allowance based on the length INCLUDING the wheels. Whereas, all luggage companies, also without exception, label their luggage dimensions WITHOUT including the wheel projection. What does this mean? Those wheels don't come off or fold in - they are a very real projection of between 1 to 3 extra inches - if the overhead bin accommodates 22" and your carry-on is 22" plus 2 more inches of wheels - guess what - the door isn't going to close - and neither will your carry-on fit into those test boxes they have by the ticket line. The airlines post their length restrictions for a reason - they aren't being "sticklers" about including the wheels, it's simply the reality of the space available for your carry-on to fit into.
So last year before I knew all this, I had bought some other luggage billed as "carry-on" that listed its dimensions as 21" long, assuming that of course, if it was MADE specifically as a carry-on, and the dimensions were within the limits of any airline I looked up, then I had nothing to worry about. After a few flights in which my carry-on was tagged and checked at the gate each time, a particularly diligent agent spotted me in the ticket line and had me try to fit the luggage into the measuring box - sure enough, the wheels stuck out way beyond the dimensions and there was no way it was going in - she sent me to the main counter to check it for that outrageous fee/penalty they charge now ($35 I think?). I NEVER ever check my luggage, the airlines lost or delayed my luggage too many times, plus I hate having to wait at the luggage carol on the other end. So I felt so burned to discover I'd purchased this sham of a supposed carry-on, listed at 21" but REALLY it was 24" including the wheels. I decided to sell it on Craigslist ASAP before I got burned another time, and set about finding an "honest" luggage company to purchase a REAL carry-on. After I suspiciously searched the internet for carry-on luggage in which I noted that NO company clearly specified whether their lengths included wheels, I marched into three luggage stores with a measuring tape, and that was when I learned the truth - NONE of them included the wheels in their length measurement claims. And given that many airlines have a 22" length limit, and a majority of the carry-ons I measured (which claimed between 20-22" lengths) were actually between 23-25" with the wheels - that meant that MOST carry-on luggage is actually NOT in compliance with the 22" length of the lower end of some airlines, and that you're always going to either have it checked gateside, or penalized the $35 checking fee in the main line. Outrageous!!! It's a total scam that they all get away with selling "carry-ons" that are not really in compliance! Shysters! Right now the airports are actually fairly lax and don't make everyone in line test their bags in that box, but if they did they could make a bundle forcing everyone to check and pay the fee.
Now to the review of this actual Victorinox carry-on -- yes, they claim it is 20" but with the wheels, it is actually 21" - but with only the 1" fudge factor (as opposed to up to 3" of hidden but real length some company's pretend doesn't exist), this is still well within the smallest limits of any airline. As one of the few real, honest to goodness carry-ons, it is as roomy as can be, beautifully sturdy, the zippers are smooth, and has nice external compartments for your papers/laptop/books etc. The wheels roll VERY nicely, it doesn't pull to one side or the other, the balance is so perfectly calculated that you can easily roll it upright, or with little effort, tilt it to pull at an angle, but it never threatens to fall over by itself (as many I've had before will, when the packing makes it top heavy or un-centered). The handle telescopes easily and smoothly - nice and long (longer than some, which is good because I'm tall, so I don't have to hunch to reach it, which really can strain you). It's really a total delight, and I love knowing that it is one of the very few carry-ons in compliance that is definitely small enough to fit in any airport test box.

Sturdy lightweight Carry On Luggage By Kcebs888
Victorinox Luggage Wt 20 Dual-Caster Bag
I love to travel & I always travel. I needed a handcarry luggage for easy access to my ipad, travel tickets, etc. Plenty of pockets & 360 degrees wheels. No problem with the overhead compartment for this size 20. This is a sturdy lightweight (around 7 lbs if empty) carry on luggage. Very nice & it is expandable. The name itself is a winner. VICTORINOX all the way for me!
