Fantastic Bag By Katie
I needed a bag that could transition from a business trip to backpacking across Ireland and this bag is perfect. I chose this bag over the Meridian series because I did not need want to pay extra for the attached day pack when I will normal carry a purse instead. The capacity is also calculated different between the too bags. For the Sojourn bag the 60 liters is all one large cavern inside the bag which allows you to really maximize everything you stuff in there (the compression straps are a lifesaver) The Meridian bag splits its capacity between the bag itself and the attached day pack. That said I own the Sojourn and my roommate owns the Meridian and we are both happy so picking between the two will mostly come down to price and preference.
As for the bag itself: On the business side it looks like a respectable business bag and has a lot of storage space and conveniently located pockets. For backpacking I should probably clarify what I deem "backpacking" I do not need a back which I can carry into the woods for two weeks (although this would be ok for that as well). I needed a bag that would be easy to transition on and off trains, go up hostel stairs and move around from city to city. Which is really what this bag is made for with its large wheels it can roll over just about anything but is still incredibly light when worn on your back. Being able to roll this behind be instead of carrying it on my back when we were window shopping around the city was a life saver! For those who are concerned about fit when worn as a backpack I am only 5' 3 and my torso measurement for backpacks is barely 16". But when I adjusted to it smallest size the bag still fits great and does not look as silly as I thought it might.Good solution, but... By Viajarelmundo
We bought a bag each to travel through South America. After 6 months of travel we both experienced problems with the telescopic handle to both bags: real difficulty just extending them (defeating the purpose of a bag like this). After contacting the manufacturer, it seems this is not a completely unusual occurrence (a 'how to repair' video is even posted on the website).
Again on both bags screws constantly kept on coming loose (but a squirt of bathroom sealant resolved that), although the manufacturer later advised it would not affect bag performance. A couple of the buckles broke, and the front edge 'rubberised patch' wore away after 4m, again on both bags, the underlying material did not wear completely through. We eventually covered these with a hard wearing rubberised covering. A tip for future models?
After a year, and some frequent handling by SA bus drivers, the bags looked pretty good overall, but having had Osprey before I had expected them to be more robust. I would add that you don't receive a lifetime guarantee outside the US! All in all, though, the bag performed reasonably well.
