This backpack is much bigger than it appears and it has a pocket for everything! I use it to take my laptop to work daily as well as carry documents and other things for travel. There are some great pouches inside for storing your power cables and wireless mouse. Also I dont need my neoprene laptop sleeve anymore since the padded laptop compartment is very protective and soft. My 15.6" Acer fits in there like a glove! Recently I went trough security and it was really easy to pull out my laptop for the x-ray machine and access my passport in the outer pocket. It was very comfortable carrying a heavy load around the airport while waiting for my flight to board as well. This is due to the nice padding on the straps and back of the backpack. On style, I think the carbon fabric looks great. It has a nice contemporary look that is not so skater like the other patterns. The material is very durable and it has ykk zippers which are the best quality. Highly recommended.Far Surpassed Alternatives By Steve Schlepphorst
As something of a utility/gear bag fetishist, I recently decided I wanted a nice-sized laptop backpack and began researching into what I did not think would be such a "close but flawed" market. I wanted something large enough to comfortably travel with (preferably 30L+), with a well-padded laptop sleeve, plenty of utility compartments, and that looked somewhat reasonable. I checked out several bag-review sites and found a number of bags that were either nice-looking with incredibly simplistic insides or large and convenient with a hideous aesthetic (the Targus Drifter II was perhaps the most functional and least-offensive-looking of the super-nerdy bags). After what I thought was an exhaustive survey of the options on Amazon, options on gear sites, etc., I was leaning toward a Thule Crossover bag (not bad, but not a great amount of room).
I happened upon a selection of Dakine bags and couldn't believe these weren't dominating the market on places like Amazon. I spent maybe an hour comparing all the options before getting the Network (the Terminal was a close 2nd). Immediately obviously, the bags are gorgeous. Some of the color schemes are a little flashy (I don't love the Black Stripes one; bought Carbon), but the design and fabric on all of them were great. The build quality is incredible - YKK zippers, strong material, well-secured lining, solid handle and straps, great device padding (for laptop and iPad). The bag is very comfortable to wear at any weight, with good back-padding, strong straps, and a good (adjustable) chest-strap. The device pockets secure everything well - most notably, the laptop sleeve is very thick and extends to the bottom, around the computer (i.e., a full pouch, rather than a divider, so the bottom side of the laptop doesn't hit the ground if you set it down on something hard). The main middle compartment is huge (thick, wide, and tall), can easily hold 3-4 hardcover text books. The laptop compartment has zip compartments for accessories. The outside compartment has standard (not gratuitous) organizer compartments. These three are "concentric" across the top, with thoughtful tags on the zippers that go with the main compartment for easy identification. My only two design scruples ("complaints" is too strong) are that the side pouches for water bottles are a little tight/small for larger Nalgene/Camelbak bottles (they'll stretch alright, but don't seem designed for anything bigger than a tiny 12 oz. bottle) and that the outermost pocket, with vertical zippers, seems more fashion- than function-oriented.
Overall, this is the best bag I've ever seen or owned, and hands-down surpasses all the other (12-15) options I seriously surveyed in nearly every way - best build quality/durability, best comfort, best size, most attractive, and cheaper than most other high-end bags. I highly recommend this bag, and any Dakine bag by extension, and will start with their products for any future needs.Lots of compartments By Richard
