The almost perfect laptop travel case. By Rod Harrison
There is a lot to like about this case. It does a good job of protecting your laptop. The retractable shoulder strap works pretty well. I have not had a single instance of security inspectors requiring me to remove the laptop. The bag does not have many buckles and loops to get caught on, which also gives it a sleek look that fits into corporate boardrooms.
My laptop (a Mac MBP 13) is still held securely. I purchased this bag even though it is quite a bit larger than my laptop needs because I need the extra space for additional travel items. Sometimes I have taken this on an overnight trip as my only bag.
I have had it for only a couple of months, so I cannot testify as to how reliable the retractable strap and stitching are, but so far, so good.
Two complaints. First, the sleeve that slips over your rollaway bag should have a zipper on the bottom of it so that it can be used as an additional pocket when it is not being used to attach to your rollaway bag (some less expensive laptop bags have this). Second, they should have installed a few more pockets on the inside. While some other bags get carried away with too many pockets and clips, this bag skimped on them, so it is a little tough to keep my stuff organized.If it's pockets were designed better, it would be 5+ stars By M. I've gone through airport security in San Fransisco and Dallas with my laptop in the case with out any problem. Just unzipped and butterflied it open on the ex-ray belt.
It could really use a pocket on the front face that can hold paperwork or boarding pass. Inside the existing from zipper area, the pockets are few and don't make sense; 2 pockets sit sideways, stuff just slides out. The case stands up when you sit it down, this is a very good thing, if you travel allot, you know exactly what I mean. The shoulder strap is out of the way, I rarely need it so that is a good thing. I took 4 rare earth magnets and slid then down the tight fold of the handles, 2 on each side, so they lock together when I sit it down; very convenient. If they improve the pockets I would give it 5 stars, if they added the magnets to the handle, 5 star and an adaboy.
After using the case more, I love it more and the pocket issue stopped being and issue; simple ends up to be better - Made it 5 star!
Update,6/11/13: Almost 2 years and 60 flights later and I'm still happy with this bag. The zipper has become damaged on the side, probably from jamming it under seats with narrow pockets. I'm going to order a new one, I rarely buy the same model of anything, but this bag has proven to be a frequent traveler best friend.Great Bag! By Andrea
I was fortunate to find my bag at the big box store where you "save money & live better". It was $49 there....good value for this bag.
The retractable strap is awesome. I am always getting long shoulder straps hooked or caught on things. The only real value they have for me is slinging them over my roller bag when traveling. This is quick to grab when needed and quick to go away when you put the bag down or stow it. It also can be easily carried without slipping off your shoulder, another complaint I have with a majority of shoulder straps. It balances the bag and contents well without falling off my shoulder. I like the clamshell design that doesn't require you to remove the laptop, but beware, in two airports I was still asked to separate the computer from the bag. Not a problem, though, with the bag design. It was easy to remove without "spilling" the rest of the contents.
Someone else didn't like the pockets, but I thought they were handy. I no longer travel for business, and maybe if I had more "office" items for travel I might agree. I do have a Bose noise cancelling headset in a clam shell case that fit perfectly in one pocket, the other was just the right size for my wireless mouse and small camera. The document pocket is great for documents or reading materials. I also slipped a glasses case, sunglasses & small make-up bag in there along with magazines. The smaller mesh pockets were great for bag claim tickets, travel documents spare batteries, change, etc. I like the fact that, to me, there was a lot of bag without the empty bag itself being heavy or awkward. This is a great bag with a lot of nice features, especially the retractable strap. It's genius!
